What is mama care?
mamacare is also called Mütterpflege in German.
It offers gentle, practical and emotional support for mothers in the weeks before and after birth. As a postpartum doula, I’m there to help you recover, rest and find your rhythm as a new family.
Whether it’s caring for your baby so you can shower or nap, preparing nourishing meals, tidying up, or simply listening – mamacare is about making sure you feel held and supported during this tender time.
Many mothers underestimate how demanding the postnatal period can be. Your body is healing, your hormones are shifting, and life with a newborn can feel overwhelming. That’s when I step in – to ease your daily load, to offer calm guidance, and to remind you that you don’t have to do it all alone.
In Germany, Mütterpflege is often available when a mother is struggling physically or emotionally – for example after a caesarean or complicated birth, with twins, during postpartum depression, anxiety, exhaustion or simply when everything feels too much. In such cases, my support may even be covered by your health insurance.
Every family’s needs are different, so my support is flexible – from emotional care, gentle belly massage and breastfeeding support to practical household help, nourishing food prep and time for you to rest and recover. mamacare is here to nurture the mother, so she can nurture her baby.
Costs & how it’s covered
In certain situations, the cost of mother care can be covered partly or fully by your German health insurance.
If your doctor or midwife confirms that you need extra support at home – for example after a caesarean, due to exhaustion or emotional strain – the service can usually be billed under § 24h SGB V (household help after birth) or § 38 SGB V (household help in case of illness).
Once your application is approved, I can often settle directly with your health insurance, so there’s no extra paperwork or payment needed from your side.
Common reasons for cost coverage include:
– Caesarean section or complicated birth
– Multiple births (twins or triplets)
– Wound healing problems or infections
– Postpartum depression or emotional distress
– Severe exhaustion or sleep deprivation
– Breast inflammation (mastitis)
– Back pain or mobility issues
– Complications after birth
– Lack of household support during recovery
If your insurance doesn’t cover mother care, or if you’d like to book additional hours, you can of course book my support privately.
Each arrangement is tailored to your individual needs and situation – in a way that best suits you and your family.
The most important thing is that you get the help you need, exactly when you need it.
